Twice
Upon a Time is
a "new" show made up of two older works. It combines
"The Lorax" a longer song that was cut from Seussical
with the Ahrens & Flaherty version of The Emperor's New Clothes.
Emperor was commissioned by TheatreWorks USA in the mid 1980s,
and was the first Ahrens & Flaherty work to be produced.
With the
success of Seussical, youth theaters around the country
were looking for additional family-friendly fare by Ahrens &
Flaherty, so Lynn and Stephen decided to pair these two pieces
together. So far, there have been productions of Twice Upon a
Time at some of the country's top children's theaters, like The
Coterie Theater in Kansas City, and Imagination Stages outside
Washington, DC.
There
is no CD (yet) of The Emperor's New Clothes, but perhaps
one will be forthcoming as Twice Upon a Time grows in popularity.
Both The
Emperor's New Clothes and The Lorax can also be
performed separately.
